School of Suppliers held on the second day of PTFair 2013
On March 13, 2013 the School of Suppliers was held within the framework of the international conference and exhibition AUTOPROM Russia 2013 alongside the St Petersburg Technical Fair.
The discussion focused on the issues of localisation of engineering and production facilities supported by the reports by Olga Murphy, Deputy Department Director at VTB-Development, and Vladimir Shvedikov, Senior Researcher of the Central Research Institute of Structural Materials Prometey.
Olga Murphy covered the localisation of manufacturing facilities having declared that St Petersburg automotive cluster is already well-developed. “There is also a marketplace for automotive components; the volume of automobile production keeps rising”, she added.
Olga also spoke on measures aimed at stimulation of companies, and pointed out the major problems of industry allocation. “We have elaborated a project to solve the problem of plant location which should be finalised by 2013 – Maryino Industrial Park to provide the whole city with a ready-to-use industrial zone.”
In his turn, Senior Researcher of the Central Research Institute of Structural Materials Prometey, Vladimir Shvedikov told about major R&D projects, and mentioned load gripping mechanisms, modernisation of car body manufacturing process, and science-and-technology solutions for contact welding.
Shvedikov also stopped on other problems in the industry stating that it is more difficult to develop an enterprise in technical terms rather than in financial: “Russian manufacturers represent a good value for international companies but still there are challenges connected with the lack of state funding”.
