WTO, no negative impact on Russia
Russia has not yet experienced the consequences from entry to the WTO. This conclusion was made by Georgy Petrov, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, during the plenary discussion “Global supply chains in the industry. Russia in the WTO conditions”, held within the frames of St. Petersburg Technical Fair.
“In fact, nobody has felt the effect from Russia’s entry to the WTO either at macro- or at micro-level. It will take about ten years to evaluate the outcome, but now Russia is in no danger.”
He also stressed that it is not by mere chance that automotive industry is in focus of attention, since it contributes a lot to the development of automotive industry. The WTO will provide Russia with a system of tariff protection which can lead to the development of automotive industry. At the moment Russia has the lowest import growth rates.
